Vigilance.
We read every document and question every assumption, whether we advise on an asset or acquire it ourselves. And once the decision is made, we keep watching.
Two words, chosen for what we stand for.
Herodotus, the Greek historian of the fifth century B.C., wrote of gryphons that guard the gold of the far north and let no one carry it off. Gryphons merge the eagle’s sight with the lion’s strength: a creature made for keeping watch. We claim no mythology, only the mission to protect what is valuable and entrusted, while keeping the gryphon’s posture: attentive, and strong when it matters.
Ground is the plainest word for what we acquire: land, and the buildings that stand on it. It is also what good judgment needs. To be grounded is to see things as they are, without the noise of the moment. To find common ground is how every lasting agreement begins. We work from the ground up, and we hold fast to what we acquire.
Four principles. Short enough to remember, hard enough to keep.
We read every document and question every assumption, whether we advise on an asset or acquire it ourselves. And once the decision is made, we keep watching.
Decisions rest on what can be seen, read and verified, not on what the market is saying this season. That holds for the advice we give and for what we acquire.
We buy to keep, and we think in decades, not quarters. We advise with the same horizon.
We invest our own capital, and only our own. Our only compensation for advice is the fee our client agrees to in advance.
We listen first, until the question is the right one. We examine the asset, the income and the structure ourselves, document by document, until the numbers and the place agree. Then we decide what we recommend, or what we acquire, and we say so plainly, including when the answer is no.
